Maria leads our not for profit team providing a broad range of services to our clients in the charitable and not for profit sector, including bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, human resources and associated services. She also supports our Business Support team.
Maria qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) in 2011 and began her accountancy career at a top 40 accountancy practice, Larking Gowen, as an Accounts Assistant before being promoted to the Corporate Finance Department.
Before joining externalservices, Maria previously worked as a Sector and Group Management Accountant at May Gurney/Kier and was Head of Finance at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, Norwich City Football Club’s official charity partner.
Maria is Treasurer of a Age UK Norfolk, which is a pro bono role.
Senior Legal Advisor
Jo is a 16 year PQE commercial solicitor with extensive in-house experience.
She advises on a variety of commercial contracts, including in the areas of procurement, IT, distribution, outsourcing, licensing and the varied aspects of print and digital publishing. Jo also advises on intellectual property and data protection issues. Her time as an in-house lawyer in a fast moving, cost efficient media organisation ensures that she concentrates on the real issues when dealing when advising clients.
Jo studied Biology at Nottingham University before taking part in an expedition in Bolivia to study the Giant Otter. From there, she went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science at Nottingham University and then studied law at Chester College of Law. Jo qualified as a solicitor with Eversheds in 2000. At Eversheds she advised a variety of spin-off entities to large multinationals on intellectual property and commercial law matters, before moving to the commercial department of Osborne Clarke.
Jo then spent 11 years as an in-house solicitor at Future PLC (including two years heading up the legal team) and completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property at Bristol University.
Tom provides financial controller services to various client companies.
He is an AAT qualified accountant and acts as company lead for portfolio companies in the renewable and energy sector. He started his accountancy career in the hospitality industry in 2008. As a company lead he is responsible for the entire bookkeeping and accountancy function for each of his companies including completing VAT returns, bank reconciliations, production of cash flows and management accounts.
Tom previously worked for a large international hotel chain.
Senior Legal Advisor
John is a commercial lawyer with over 25 years’ experience in a variety of roles in private practice, the not-for-profit sector and in-house as General Counsel. He advises on a wide range of commercial law.
He was General Counsel at Solarcentury for 15 years, from start-up in the UK to a £200m turnover group active across 4 continents. This gives him a deep knowledge of what it takes to make renewable energy projects commercially successful and what it takes to keep a fast growth company profitable. John has previously worked for Clifford Chance, S J Berwin and was General Counsel at the RSPB for 6 years.
He has particular experience of: renewable energy projects, at utility, commercial and residential scales; construction and supply chain contracts; sales, marketing, distribution and licensing agreements; contract manufacturing and commercialising innovation and joint ventures.
Billy is the founder and Managing Director of External Services. He read law at the University of Hull and trained as a lawyer before qualifying as a chartered company secretary. He provides commercial, corporate and construction law advice.
He has nearly 20 years of experience in the oil & gas, renewable energy and civil construction sectors, together with recent experience in the banking and finance sector. He has held key positions within the businesses of previous employers and has negotiated multi-million pound construction contracts for onshore and offshore projects in the UK and several foreign jurisdictions including the USA, Mexico, Malaysia, Libya and Qatar.
Billy has previously worked at FTSE 100 company Severn Trent plc, SLP Engineering Ltd and Triodos Bank N.V.
Senior Legal Advisor
Naomi is a commercial contracts specialist with 9 years’ experience practising as a qualified solicitor in both private practice and industry. Naomi advised on all types of commercial contracts as well as other areas of commercial law including data protection, competition law and consumer credit.
Naomi studied languages at the University of East Anglia before working in France for two years, for international law firm Linklaters LLP. She then completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course and qualified as a Solicitor in 2007.
Naomi previously worked for Linklaters LLP, Mills & Reeve LLP, Aviva PLC and Fendercare Marine Limited (part of James Fisher & Sons PLC).
Caroline provides portfolio management services, accounting and financial controller services to our clients.
Caroline is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ experience in business. Caroline qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 1997 while working at PKF Chartered Accountants (now BDO UK LLP). Since then Caroline has been a Financial Controller for a number of small & medium sized businesses in tourism, property and more recently the waste services sector.
Caroline has previously worked at Porvair Plc, The UK Holiday Group Ltd, Targetfollow Group Ltd and Just Hire UK Ltd (part of Reconomy Ltd).
Lauren provides financial controller services to various client companies, together with wider property, insurance and administrative support.
She has over 5 years of experience providing administration support to a large team of property portfolio managers and also assists with our risk management services. As a company lead she is responsible for the entire bookkeeping and accountancy function for each of her companies including completing VAT returns, bank reconciliations, production of cash flows and management accounts.
Lauren previously worked for Targetfollow Group Ltd, Heatrae Sadia and spent time in Australia working for several different companies including Universal Music Group.
Matt is the Managing Director of External Accounts, Chartered Accountants, a sister company to External Services. He provides bookkeeping, accountancy and tax services to a broad range of clients.
He is a Chartered Accountant with 19 years of experience in the small and medium entity sector. He qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2003 and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2007.
Matt previously worked for Lovewell Blake LLP and Price Bailey LLP, both of which are within the top 40 firms in the UK.
Head of Secretariat
Julie leads our Secretariat team and has over 30 years’ experience providing company secretarial services.
She deals with routine compliance matters and ad hoc projects, such as the incorporation of new entities, restructuring and dissolution of companies.
Julie has previously worked at KPMG, TMF Group and Grant Thornton and counts household names amongst her client list.
Juste read law and management at University in Lithuania and is currently studying for the ACCA professional qualifications. She provides bookkeeping, management and legal support to our clients.
As part of her degree she spent her final year at Kingston University in London as part of the Erasmus exchange programme, before going on to complete the Legal Secretaries Diploma in the UK. She speaks fluent Lithuanian, English and some Russian
Juste previously worked in the agricultural chemicals industry.
Ali read international relations at Loughborough University, from where she joined the RAF and achieved the rank of Flight Lieutenant. She provides portfolio management services to our clients.
Ali joined External Services in 2012 and has experienced many of the different types of services that we provide and has particular expertise in our Secretariat and Accountancy services.
She is currently training to become a chartered company secretary.
An award winning Chartered Quantity Surveyor with 17 years multi industry experience across the UK, Netherlands, Norwegian sector and the Southern North Sea (SNS). Myles has a proven track record of providing highly specialised, bespoke and tailored commercial and contractual solutions delivering measurable results for both contractors and clients. Myles has undertaken many bespoke specialist commercial management, cost auditing and contract management roles for national contractors and international blue chip clients on high profile Nuclear New Build, Rail, on and offshore EPC Oil & Gas contracting and heavy civil engineering projects.
Myles qualified with a first class honours degree in Quantity Surveying from Anglia Ruskin University winning the RICS Eastern Region prize for excellence in the surveying field. In 2011 Myles was leading a team that gained an international award from the CFO at Shell for providing strategy, innovation and efficiencies within the ONEgas Supply Chain. Myles is a Chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb) specialising in construction adjudication.
